Program Overview
A 10-hour Mentor Coach–Specific Education program delivered across four live sessions, focused on developing competency-based mentor coaching practice aligned with the 2024 ICF framework.
What you will be working on
This program is structured around the development of mentor coaching capability in practice.
Participants work with:
real coaching sessions and observed evidence
competency-based observation of coaching behaviour
structured developmental feedback
progression patterns across coaching performance levels
This is applied, practice-based work—not only theoretical instruction.
Program Structure
The program consists of four live, synchronous sessions designed to integrate conceptual understanding with practical application.
Session 1 — Foundations of Mentor Coaching (2 hours)
Roles, ethics and boundaries of mentor coaching
Role clarity: the ICF Qualified Mentor Coach in relation to other roles (coach educator, observer, assessor, mentor, supervisor)
Introduction to competency-based observation
Session 2 — Competency Observation & Appraisal (3 hours)
ACC, PCC and MCC performance markers
Observing coaching through evidence (language, behaviour, impact)
Practice using real coaching material
Session 3 — Feedback & Developmental Dialogue (3 hours)
Moving from feedback to developmental conversation
Structuring evidence-based, non-judgmental feedback
Practice: delivering feedback and supporting integration
Session 4 — Integration & Group Mentor Coaching (2 hours)
Recognising patterns across coaching sessions
Supporting development toward mastery
Facilitating group mentor coaching
Closing reflections and next steps
Assessment Approach
Assessment is formative and evidence-based, aligned with ICF standards.
You will be assessed through your ability to:
observe coaching sessions using evidence (timestamps, language, behaviour)
identify competencies accurately
provide structured, competency-based feedback
reflect on and track development over time
Assessment also considers:
the quality of your developmental dialogue
your ability to balance challenge and support
depth of your reflective capacity as a mentor coach
Development Outcomes
By the end of the program, participants will be able to:
apply the ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies in practice
differentiate mentor coaching from other roles in coaching, supervision, and evaluation
establish clear agreements and manage a structured developmental process
assess coaching sessions using observable evidence
deliver feedback that supports real skill development
identify patterns and support long-term integration
facilitate group mentor coaching effectively
Participants will also:
demonstrate a developmental partnership approach aligned with current ICF mentor coaching innovations
use reflective practice as a core mentoring tool
support coaches in progressing toward mastery
Mentor Coach Qualification (MCQ) Renewal Alignment
This program fulfills the 10-hour Mentor Coach–Specific Education requirement aligned with the ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies for Mentor Coach Qualification (MCQ) renewal.
It supports:
ongoing alignment with mentor coaching standards
development of consistent, competency-based practice
renewal across ACC, PCC, and MCC credential levels
Completion contributes to continued recognition within the ICF Mentor Coach ecosystem, including registry status and digital credentialing.
